Playground Routines and Procedures

1. Teachers will follow playground schedule. 2. If classrooms need an unscheduled break, please choose an area other than the playground (ex. Supervised walks, walk and talk, organized games on the kickball field). 3. Staff will station themselves in different areas of the playground to provide appropriate supervision. 4. When on the playground, ALL staff are responsible for the supervision of ALL children, strategically placing themselves around the playground. 5. Staff will have whistles to get the attention of students. 6. At the beginning of the school year, each teacher will select student team leaders (those who play on organized teams). Grade level team leaders will meet together to establish consistent rules of the game (basketball, football, soccer, cheerleading, etc.). Each team leader will go back to their class to teach the rules as established. 7. When entering the playground, students will stay in line until they reach the bottom of the ramp or steps. 8. When leaving the playground, students will form a line at the bottom of the ramp or steps and walk to their classroom.
