Video-endoscopy plays an important role in clinical applications, such as Gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, urology, gynecology, and surgical

procedures. The camera with wide-angle lens (fish-eye lens) of clinical endoscope can capture a larger field of interior body in a single image. Such a system enhances the capability of images. However, its outcome shows barrel-type spatial distortion which causes the image regions farther from the distortion center to be compressed more than those near the center by a non-linear distortion. Thus, the outer regions of the image are observed smaller than their actual size. This inhomogeneous image compression introduces significant errors in the results obtained during feature extraction. Continuous estimation of quantitative parameters, such as area and perimeter, is of considerable importance while performing clinical endoscopy. Unless the distortion is detected and corrected, estimation errors could be very large. A mathematical model is based on modified polynomial mapping which is coefficient evaluations used to map the images from distorted image space onto the corrected image space. The model parameters include the polynomial coefficients, distortion center, and corrected center. The system makes minimal use of resources thus being a good

candidate for embedding into a single chip. Proposed solution is implemented in a cost-effective Altera Quartus II Field Programmable Gate array. Compared with some existing distortion correction techniques, this work reduces at least 69 % hardware cost and 75 % memory requirement.
