Safety devices that are in the lab to protect against electric shock Plugs Earth connections Residual current circuit device All of the plug sockets are more than a meter from the tap/sinks. All of the plugs are fused. Theres an emergency safety button on the teachers bench.

b. Suggested improvements for safety practices by the college Pat testing should be done at least once a year. A visual checking should be done before using the equipments. The wiring, fuse and connection should be checked before using the equipments. Students should be encouraged to point out any faults spotted when using the equipments. TASK 2 Check list Make sure that the colour coded wires are on the correct pin. The terminal screws must be tightened on to the bare copper wire not on the insulation. Make sure that there are no loose strands or wires. The cable-grip should be clamped on to the outer cable, not the inner colour-coded wires. Make sure that the correct fuse is fitted.

I dont think the safety practices followed by the college are effective. They need to make an improvement on the PAT tests. They need to be checked more frequently and make any changes that are needed to improve it. Also, students should be encouraged to check the appliances before using them, and if they spot any type of fault, they should report it to the staff.
