The department of Electrical Engineering admits a number of Research Assistants (RAs) and Project Assistants (PAs) every year. These students also register for the M.Tech degree. The M.Tech. curriculum differs from M.Tech (Teaching Assistants) students only in terms of minimum number of credits to be earned per semester. The written test for shortlisted candidates will be held on June 6th 2013. The candidates are requested to assemble in Hall No. 1 (First Floor) in New Lecture Hall Complex (L3 building) at 8.30 a.m. sharp. The interviews for the candidates shortlisted out of written test will be held on 7th June and 8th June, 2013. Therefore, candidates are required to make plans for their availability in IIT on 6th, 7th & 8th June, 2013. An email will be sent to all students who have opted for RA admissions and whose names appear in the eligible list, with instructions to upload relevant information about laboratory skills around 6th May, 2013. The website to upload this information will become active from 6th May, 2013. The last date for submitting the information is 20th May, 2013. The candidates will be shortlisted based on these skills and GATE score (Project Assistants will also be shortlisted from the same set of students). Institute RAs are assigned duties in various teaching laboratories of the department like basic electronics, microprocessors, analog and digital circuits, machines and electrical drives etc. The primary function of RA is to work with Professor in-charge of the respective laboratory for day to day functioning of the lab including maintenance of the equipments, system administration and organizing experimental set-up. Institute RAs may also be assigned any other academic or administrative duties related to conduct of examinations, admissions process etc by the Head of the department. Project RAs are assigned duties in sponsored research projects being undertaken in the department by various faculty members. The primary function of PA is assist the Professor in-charge or Principal Investigator of the respective project either on a research project or any academic or administrative work related to the project. Normally, it is expected for a PA to carry out his/her research as part of MTech thesis in the same project/faculty. Both Institute RA and Project RA are expected to spend about 20 hours per week towards their assigned duties of RA in addition to working towards fulfillment of academic requirements of MTech.
