August 7, 2013 Re: School Improvement Plan Dear Parents and Guardians: We would like to share the results of our progress in meeting the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) objectives. We are evaluated annually on four objectives: test participation, graduation, and achievement levels in reading and mathematics. Schools that miss any of the four objectives for two or more years are labeled as districts identified for improvement. During the 2012-2013 school year, NewBrook Elementary School did meet the objectives in reading and writing however; missed the annual progress objective in math. NewBrook Elementary School now joins 300 other public schools in the state of Vermont as being identified for improvement. NewBrook Elementary School will continue to provide students with a high quality education. As a school, we will be addressing this issue through school and WCSU initiatives. Most of these initiatives are already in place as of last year and will continue to enhance instruction in the classroom, and provide professional development for educators for the 2013-2014 school year. NewBrook Elementary School, along with other schools in the WCSU, will be using an approach to mathematics through the Mahesh Math initiative that was started during the 2012-2013 school year. Most of the teachers at NewBrook spent many hours of training to make this happen last year. This training will continue through the summer and into this coming year for all NewBrook Elementary School teachers. As a school, we also continue to provide students with the technology they need for 21st Century instruction. This technology includes an increase of web-based learning and local assessment for students so we can provide them with a more individualized approach to learning.

Our Adequate Yearly Progress review summary can be found at: http://education.vermont.gov/new/html/pgm_assessment/performance/necap_public_schools_A_D.html If you would like more information about the NCLB annual objectives, please visit the website at: http://education.vermont.gov/new/html/laws/nclba/nclba.html

Sincerely, Christopher A. Pratt Principal, NewBrook Elementary School
