FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BYUs Student Film Association hosts annual Final Cut Film Festival PROVO, Utah (April 2, 2013)--The BYU Student Film Association (SFA) hosts the annual Final Cut Film Festival on April 12 and 13. Since 1992, this festival has been a celebration of student achievement in original filmmaking at BYU. It really creates a chance for students to show what they can do with film, said Josh Gibson, SFA president. We get a chance to see a lot of creativity and growth. Students involved in the film department, and other creative minds throughout campus, get involved in this event each year. They must write, film and edit their project and submit it to the SFA to be reviewed. The SFA views each film and compiles the final list to be screened at the festival. Last year, 28 films were screened during the two-day festival. This year, there are 30. Films vary in length, but usually last between three to seven minutes. Industry professionals and BYU alumni are invited to judge the festival and award the best project in each category. These awards include Best Commercial, Best Fiction, Best Non-Fiction and Best of Fest. An Audience Choice award is given as well. Students make these films for themselves, said Gibson. But, Final Cut gives them a chance to receive recognition for their hard work and creativity. This year, the Final Cut Film Festival will be held in the Pardoe Theater in the Harris Fine Arts Center on April 12 and 13. Each day will have an A Program starting at 6:30 p.m. and a B Program at 8:30 p.m. The award ceremony is held on Saturday night at 10:15 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the HFAC box office or at byuarts.com. All programs are open to the public. ### Natalie Grigg | natalie.a.grigg@gmail.com | 850.496.9062 About the Student Film Association A club in the media arts department that acts as a liaison between students and faculty.
