Name: ___________________________ Class: ___________ Date: _________________ FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE PROJECT OBJECTIVE: Using figurative language sentences, students will create an alphabet book with complete sentences and illustrations for each letter of the alphabet to demonstrate understanding of the different figurative language forms. DIRECTIONS: Create a figurative language sentences for each letter of the alphabet. Each letter will have its own page (one side for one letter). Every page must include an illustration of the sentence in full color. You can research for various figurative language sentences to help you. Remember to add a cover that includes the title, author and illustrations. You must include at least 3 of each figurative language: simile, metaphor, imagery, personification, idiom, hyperbole, alliteration, or onomatopoeia. Be creative, artistic and neat.

Create a Game Project


Any projects turned in after May 14th, the student will lose 10 points each day it is late.

Each student will choose a 200 page chapter book to read. They will then create a game board using information from their book with cards, places, dice/spinner, and directions. The game can be any activity where other students can play without an adults assistance. They will also write a five paragraph essay that summarizes the book. Each student will present their essay and we will have a classroom game day that each student will be able to play other students games. Famous Person Project

In Science and Social Studies we will be and have been learning about important people that have greatly impacted our society and the way we live today. Each student will pick an important person approved by their teacher and research about them. This project will earn a Social Studies, Science, Writing, and Reading grade. Each student will be responsible for creating a puppet resembling his or her chosen famous Person. The puppet can be made out of a sock, Styrofoam balls, yarn, cloth or any other material of the students choosing. Puppets must resemble the famous person they are representing, including dress from his time period. Students will also write a persuasive speech to convince their classmates to vote for their person as The Most Famous Person Ever. Your child should practice their speech at home. It must be written in first person (I am. . .) They should focus on speaking like their famous person, rather than reading from their information sheet. This speech and the puppet should include, but not limited to the following: information:

Oral Presentation: (50 points)


The student will give a persuasive speech that will include: -Fluency of speech (20 points) -Famous Person Name (5 points) -Where and when he/she was born (10 points) -Three facts about how they became famous and why they believe they are the Most Famous Person Ever. These facts should be important things that this person did to help make our country a better place to live. (15 points)

Visual Presentation: (50 points)


-The speech is written on paper or typed having no grammatical errors using the given speech template that is attached, five paragraphs. (15 points) -Five multiple-choice questions asking about the information in your speech (10 points)

Sandwich Book Report


Objective: Using a fictional story, the students will design and develop a book report that details the elements of literature in order to improve reading comprehension. Directions: Complete each of the steps below. Follow the grading rubric, or chart, to help guide your book report development. Select a fiction chapter book 200 pages in length or more Design and develop Sandwich Report:
o Top slice of bread write the title and the author of the book that you read. o Lettuce write a brief summary of the book. o Tomato provide characterization for the main character. o Mayonnaise write about the setting. o Cheese write about the climax. o Ham/Turkey describe the plot. o Bottom slice of bread draw one favorite scene from the story. (BACK: write your name, number and date)

Objective: Using a chapter book of any fictional genre, students will analyze the story plot for the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution to improve their reading comprehension. Directions: Read a chapter book (over 200 pages) Identify the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution Write a rough draft, short paragraph for each of the spaces on the story map. Check for correct spelling, punctuation and sentences and then add the paragraphs to the map. Cut along the left side of each paper and glue the pieces together so the lines match. Trim off any extra white edges. Illustrate & color a picture above the mountain for each section. Color the rest of the mountain. Practice presenting your story map.
