SITE SELECTION FOR SEA ENERGY PROJECTS
Under Article 20 of the Special Framework of Spatial Planning (Greek Official Gazette
[FEK] 2464/3.12.2008) the exploitation of marine energy, is described as "a new form
of renewable energy at an experimental stage. Under Article 23 (Action Plan),
paragraph B, No. 4, c, a specific assessment is needed to "determine the criteria for
the site selection of new forms of Renewable Energy Sources.
The study illuminates the national and the European - legal context, which the
planned assessment has to be aligned with and proposes a set of site selection
criteria for the exploitation of sea energy. Selected examples of site selection issues in
other countries are being considered.
