Course Syllabus for English 1A Honors

Office hours: 1:00-2:30 p.m. I do my best to return all messages (phone or e-mail) within 24 hours. I strongly believe in an open line of communication with parents. Course Material: (required) course textbook or other required reading materials 3 ring binder (w/ dividers) spiral notebook for English only paper pen (blue or black) pencil *planner/organizer (highly recommended) Course Description: Students will strive to meet and/or excel grade level standards in areas of written and oral development, critical thinking, research, comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary. Students will study various forms of literature such as a selection of contemporary short stories, To Kill a Mockingbird, Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, Romeo and Juliet, and The Odyssey to create an appreciation for a broad spectrum of literature and to develop required skills. Students will also read a variety of novels through independent reading and complete literature analysis responses for each novel that they read. Grading Policy: (refer to reverse side) Special Requirements: Come to class with a positive attitude ready to be active and productive. I plan on challenging you this year and I expect you to rise to the challenge. This course requires a demanding amount of writing and reading in order to be successful.
