Professional Biography of Katherine M Turner, M.

Ed

Katherine M Turner graduated with distinction from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and from the University of British Columbia with a Master of Education in Special Education, Autism and Developmental Disabilities. Katherines interest in the area of Neuropsychology continues and her postgraduate studies involving American Sign Language have broadened her understanding and respect of both Deaf Cultural and the Deaf community.

Katherine provided behavioural consultation services and workshop presentations to mid-island communities throughout her 10-year term at Vancouver Island Community Support Services. In 2010 Katherine opened her private practice, Vancouver Island Social Integration Tutoring (VISIT). She continues to provide behaviour consultation services in homes, schools and the community settings. Katherine also continues to present when requested, as well as offering therapeutic intervention for youth and young adults, personalized resource development, and social skills groups. She has hosted several workshop series over the years focusing on topics such as sensory integration, healthy sexuality, compassion fatigue, aging with a developmental disability and positive behaviour support.

Katherine is an affiliate of the British Columbia Association for Behaviour Analysis and sits as a member of the town of Ladysmith's Advisory Planning Commission. She volunteers on a micro board and provides support to self-advocates in the communities of Duncan, Ladysmith and Nanaimo, BC.
