PROBLEM
The World Health Organisation has said giving birth laying flat on our backs is harmful and needs to be eradicated. All doctors and midwives know its harmful, yet the majority of women in the West are still giving birth this way. Laying flat only came about due to better access for doctors, not because it was the right thing to do for mother and baby.
OPPORTUNITY
nickchubb
Kneeling and squatting are the two most widely used birth positions in the world, and its how weve given birth for hundreds of years. These upright positions have been medically proven to speed up labour, widen the pelvic outlet, reduce vaginal tearing and reduce severe birth pain, yet were still laying on the bed. There is opportunity for a product that could facilitate a variety of upright positions, whilst still meeting the demands of doctors, midwives and a medical environment.

Six pods can be pushed around an inner or outer ring, creating a framework that allows people to share the space in many different arrangements. Catering for individuals and those in groups.
Holes in the pod prevent water collecting, and the screwstop mechanism means the pods cant be screwed all the way off when spinning them to adjust the height.
