PRESS RELEASE

THE HON. TONY ABBOTT MHR, LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION FEDERAL MEMBER FOR WARRINGAH THE COALITION WILL BUILD BETTER ROADS IN PERTH
The Coalition will commit $1.3 billion to major road projects in Perth. If elected, a Coalition government will:

invest $615 million to build the Swan Valley Bypass; invest $686 million into the Perth Gateway project; and continue the Roads to Recovery programme.

If elected, I want to be known as an infrastructure prime minister. The construction of the Swan Valley Bypass and the Perth Gateway will improve productivity, strengthen the Western Australian economy and create jobs. These roads will also tackle congestion so that people can spend less time in traffic and more time with family. The Swan Valley Bypass will be the major northern traffic link for the city of Perth. It involves 40 kms of highway and provides a link between Perth and the mining and tourism regions in the Murchison, Pilbara and Kimberley. It will also encourage job creation by facilitating access to, and investment in, industrial estates near Bullsbrook and Ellenbrook. The Bypass has been assessed as a national priority project by Infrastructure Australia and is supported by the Western Australia Government, the City of Swan and the Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia. The Coalitions commitment to build the Perth Gateway is longstanding. Labors commitment depends on a mining tax that destroys jobs and raises little. Our commitment is locked in, ensuring that Western Australians can have confident in our commitment. Only the Coalition can be trusted to deliver the Perth Gateway. This project will not just ease congestion, but it will facilitate further growth at the airport and its surrounds. Perth Airport estimates the costs of congestion and lost productivity is currently $21 million a year. Building modern infrastructure is part of the Coalitions Real Solutions Plan. We will build a stronger economy in Western Australia by abolishing the carbon tax, scrapping the mining tax, restoring the Australian Building and Construction Commission and investing $1.3 billion for major roads.
