Functions & Descriptions A. Flagella A tail like cell part that is attached at the end of (mostly) an elongated cell. B. Nucleiod Region A region at the center of the bacterium. This region is for the DNA material of the cell since it has no Nucleus C. Ribosomes Same with human, animal and plant cells, ribosomes serves as the protein factories of the Bacterium. D. Cytosol A.k.a Cytoplasm. A major function of cytosol is to transport metabolites from their site of production to where they are used. E. Plasma Membrane It is the cells permeability barrier. It transports solutes; energy generation, and locates numerous enzyme systems. F. Periplasmic Space A space between the Plasma membrane and Cell wall. This space is for the storage of food and nutrients. G. Cell Wall It is like a inner protective covering to protect the bacterium from unwanted foreign bodies and physical circumstances. Similar to a Plant cell but made mostly of peptidoglycan. H. Outer Membrane A.k.a Capsule. Includes slime layers and Glycocalyx. I. Pili - Sex pilus - Stabilizes mating bacteria during DNA transfer by conjugation.
