How to Quickly and Easily Make Your Connecting Flight at Frankfurt Airport

Transferring the Easy Way


If youre transferring at Frankfurt Airport, relax youre in good hands. Begin by checking one of the flight arrival/departure boards or monitors to see what gate your flight leaves from and other important information, then follow the signs to get to it.

If you dont have a boarding pass yet: Please check in at a transfer counter in the transit area or go straight to your gate. In most cases, your bags will be automatically routed through to your final destination. In case of doubt, inquire when checking in at your point of origin.

SkyLine Train
The SkyLine train runs between Terminals 1 and 2, leaving every 2 to 3 minutes. Stops: Terminal 1 A, Terminal 1 B, and Terminal 2 between Concourses D and E

E-Shuttle Service/Terminal Express


If you already have a valid boarding pass for your connecting flight: Go straight to the gate. In most cases, your bags will be automatically routed through to your final destination. In case of doubt, inquire when checking in at your point of origin. If the departure gate is not indicated on your boarding pass, consult the monitor screens. Then follow the blue signs. If you need to go a long way, look for one of the blue-and-white Terminal Express cars that serve the entire transit zone. You can ride them free of charge.

Fast Lanes for Short Transfer Times


If you have less than 30 minutes to get to your connecting flight, you may use the fast lane at the security checkpoint. Please make sure to check the monitor screens for information on your flight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find a pharmacy?


Both outlets of the Metropolitan Pharmacy are located pre-security: in Terminal 1 B, Level 2 in the Shopping Boulevard, and in Terminal 2 D, Level 3 in the Shopping Plaza.

Where is smoking allowed?


Please note that smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the terminals except in the enclosed smoking booths located in the transit areas of Terminal 1 (A, B and C/D) and Terminal 2. Services for Transfer Passengers 9 7

Where can I get information quickly?


Within the transit zone, go to the information desks in Terminal 1 B, Level 2 (Information 12) and Level 3 (Information 10). There are also pre-security information desks in Terminal 1 B on the departures and arrivals levels and in Terminal 2 on the departures level. You can also use one of the many free service telephones (dial 118) or ask our mobile service guides.

Which lounges can I use regardless of which class and airline I have booked?
In the transit zone, passengers of all airlines may use the SKY Lounge in Terminal 2 D, Level 3 opposite gate D8 and the LuxxLounge in the pre-security part of Terminal 1 B/C in the Airport Gallery. No advance reservation is needed. There are also 16 airline-specific lounges with restricted admission; please contact your airline for details.

How can I get online?


Throughout the airport, you can access the Internet via Wi-Fi for 30 minutes free of charge. You can also conveniently surf the Web at one of our Internet Points (sit-down terminals) or 100 Internet Towers (stand-up terminals).

Where can I freshen up after a long flight?


Youll find showers in Terminal 1 B, Level 2 in the Shopping Boulevard (pre-security). Within the transit zone, there are showers in Terminal 1 B, Level 3 and Terminal 2 D, Level 3.

Where can I recharge my mobile phone or laptop?


There are a large number of Oracle charging stations throughout the airport that you can use free of charge. You can also charge your cell phone free in the Around the World restaurant (Terminal 1 A, Level 2).

Where can I leave my luggage during my layover?


There are three staffed left luggage facilities in the pre-security part of the airport: in Terminal 1 B on the arrivals level, in Concourse B/C on the departures level, and in Terminal 2 D on the arrivals level.

Easy VAT Refunds


If you are leaving the European Union and live outside it, you are entitled to a refund on the value-added tax paid on all merchandise purchased within the EU. Please note that you must request a tax refund check when buying items. For merchandise you carry on board: On the way to your gate, please stop at the customs office after the passport check. After obtaining the required customs stamp there, you can get your VAT refund (minus a service fee) a few steps further at Global Blue, TaxFreeWorldwide, or Premier Tax Free (at the money changing counters of Travelex and International Currency Exchange). For merchandise in your checked luggage: When checking in at your airlines counter, let the staff know that you need an export confirmation slip from customs for items packed in your luggage. Your bags are then tagged and you can show them to customs later. Once you have obtained the customs stamp, your luggage is automatically routed to your flight. On the way to your gate, you can then collect your VAT refund (minus a service fee) from Global Blue, TaxFreeWorldwide, or Premier Tax Free (at the money changing counters of Travelex and International Currency Exchange). Tip: How to Change Terminals Fast


If your connecting flight leaves from the other terminal, you can take advantage of the free SkyLine train to quickly and easily travel between Terminals 1 and 2. It leaves every two to three minutes and the trip only takes two minutes. Just follow the signs to the nearest stop. 15

Various hotels at the airport and in central Frankfurt offer day rooms that you can use between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to relax between flights in a private space. To book, go to the Fraport Hotels & Tours counter (see p. 33) or the Service Point in Terminal 2, Level 2.

A 45-minute tour of the terminal apron areas gives you an overview of what goes on at the airport. Tickets: Tour Counter in Terminal 1, Airport City Mall Frankfurt. Tours leave daily at 1, 2, 3, and 4 p.m.; on weekends and public holidays and during school holidays in the German state of Hesse there are also tours at 11 a.m. and 12 noon. Where to Charge Your Mobile Phone

You can charge your cell phone free of charge in the restaurant Around the World (Terminal 1 A, Level 2). For most popular phone models, you wont need your charger. There are also Oracle charging stations all around the airport.

If you decide to spend one or more nights in Frankfurt, the Fraport Hotels & Tours counter can find you a hotel in any price bracket at the airport, in the city, or in the surrounding area.

From the airports regional train station, you can reach central Frankfurt in only 15 minutes by metropolitan train (S-Bahn) line S8 or S9. If youd like to combine convenient, free access to all of Frankfurt with numerous discounts for the Palmengarten botanical garden, ship rides, etc. we recommend that you purchase the Frankfurt Card.
