Hyperlipidemia
 Different types of hyperlipidemia appear at
different ages.
 When hyperlipidemia is defined in terms of
classes of elevated lipoproteins in the
blood, the term hyperlipoproteinemia is
used.
What is type III hyperlipidemia?

 Type III hyperlipidemia is a rare kind of


combined hyperlipidemia, in which both
cholesterol and triglyceride are increased in
the blood.
 This lead to accelerated atherosclerosis,
which causes heart attack, stroke, blockage
of leg arteries at a young age.
Key problem in Type III hyperlipidemia

 Is a failure of the liver to remove remnant


lipoproteins from the bloodstream.
Signe and symptoms
 Yellowish nodules in the skin beneath eyes,
elbows, knees and tendons.
 Enlarged liver and spleen.
 Discomfort or tenderness

in the upper abdomen.


Causes of Hyperlipidemia III
 Diet
 Hypothyroidism
 Nephrotic syndrome
 Anorexia nervosa
 Obstructive liver disease
 Obesity
 Diabetes mellitus
 Pregnancy
How is Hyperlipidemia Type III
inherited ?
 A bad gene for apoE attaches weakly to
surface .

 More common with


females than males.
Treatment
Treatment of Hyperlipidemia III
 Surgery to remove fat deposits in the skin
and tendons.

 Lifestyle modification:
 Low-cholesterol diet
 Exercise
