Whatisit?
Pantothenicacidisavitamin,alsoknownasvitaminB5.Itiswidelyfoundinbothplantsandanimalsincludingmeat, vegetables,cerealgrains,legumes,eggs,andmilk. VitaminB5iscommerciallyavailableasDpantothenicacid,aswellasdexpanthenolandcalciumpantothenate,which arechemicalsmadeinthelabfromDpantothenicacid. PantothenicacidisfrequentlyusedincombinationwithotherBvitaminsinvitaminBcomplexformulations.VitaminB complexgenerallyincludesvitaminB1(thiamine),vitaminB2(riboflavin),vitaminB3(niacin/niacinamide),vitaminB5 (pantothenicacid),vitaminB6(pyridoxine),vitaminB12(cyanocobalamin),andfolicacid.However,someproductsdo notcontainalloftheseingredientsandsomemayincludeothers,suchasbiotin,paraaminobenzoicacid(PABA), cholinebitartrate,andinositol. Pantothenicacidhasalonglistofuses,althoughthereisntenoughscientificevidencetodeterminewhetheritis effectiveformostoftheseuses.Peopletakepantothenicacidfortreatingdietarydeficiencies,acne,alcoholism, allergies,baldness,asthma,attentiondeficithyperactivitydisorder(ADHD),autism,burningfeetsyndrome,yeast infections,heartfailure,carpaltunnelsyndrome,respiratorydisorders,celiacdisease,colitis,conjunctivitis, convulsions,andcystitis.Itisalsotakenbymouthfordandruff,depression,diabeticnervepain,enhancingimmune function,improvingathleticperformance,tongueinfections,grayhair,headache,hyperactivity,lowbloodsugar,trouble sleeping(insomnia),irritability,lowbloodpressure,multiplesclerosis,musculardystrophy,muscularcrampsinthelegs associatedwithpregnancyoralcoholism,neuralgia,andobesity.
