Central biological idea of your project: Primarily with the example of binomial nomenclature as determined by Linnaeus, this project will relate the Latin scientific name to the features it is describing and classifying.

Project objective: This project will show the importance of classification, homologous structures, analogous structures, the importance of phylogenetics vs. phenetics, and natural selection. Project format: Poster

Write a short paragraph outlining your proposed project: This project will be a poster to demonstrate the relation between a handful of species through their nomenclature and features. Within these features, whether analogous or homologous, natural selection occurs, due to this we can see how different traits were passed down and how the environment plays a role in this. This project will show how these determinations affect everyday language when speaking of certain organisms.

Outline of five of the points you will communicate in your project 1. The binomial nomenclature communicates what features are pertinent when classifying an organism. 2. This poster will show the difference between analogous and homologous structures. 3. Darwins natural selection will be discussed with which homologous traits were favorable. 4. Analogous traits and convergent evolution will be discussed. 5. Phylogenetic ideas will be demonstrated through genetically similar and different animals (as opposed to only their phenotypes).
