LILO: Life on the Prowl

Grant Noel Final Project Proposal Narrative: Studio October 2012

Pitch Statement

LILO: Life on the Prowl is a comedic nature mockumentary about the domestic life of my cat, LILO, which will attempt to get to the bottom of her enigmatic behavior. Feisty. Cute. Fat. Playful. Incredibly dumb. Mean. Evil. These are just some of the words that have been used to describe the polarizing cat, LILO. Not much is known of her origin; she was found on the street, pregnant at less than a year old before she was rescued and then adopted by me. Using a combination of David Attenboroughstyle nature voiceover and video in combination with mockumentary-style talking head interviews, the character and behavior of LILO will be humorously explored in a 3-5 min. film narrative that garners sympathy for a cat that may be thought of as evil but at the end of the day is sweet and misunderstood. The main themes for the narrative will be the humor in pseudoscientific inquiry that takes itself too seriously into the behavior of a housecat, the indepth investigation of LILOs general character through partially scripted interviews with roommates and friends, and funny footage of my cat doing funny things because cats are funny. My design approach will be to script and storyboard my general ideas for the flow of the narrative, collecting lots of footage of the domestic life of LILO, interviewing my roommates and friends, and then editing my collected footage together to create my final narrative.
