Rheological models and cracking criteria of concrete under thermal stress and drying shrinkage

Project Leader SHIMA Hiroshi, Dr. Eng. Professor, Infrastructure Systems Engineering Faculty Members Involved in this Project ROS Soty, Dr. Eng. Postdoctoral researcher, Infrastructure Systems Engineering 1. Objective This project is aimed at: One of themes to be solved in the concrete engineering field is cracking due to thermal stress and drying shrinkage. Time dependent stress, strength development and possibility of cracking should be simulated at the structural design stage. Nonlinear time dependent properties of concrete and cracking criteria may be represented by a rheological model. The objective of this research is to propose a simulation method for the cracking of concrete due to thermal stress and drying shrinkage. 2. Project Outline To that end, the project will consist of the following phases: (a) Development of an effective experimental method (b) Experimental works and analyses of experimental results (c) Development of a simulation model for the cracking of concrete due to thermal stress and drying shrinkage (d) Model verification 3. Expected Performance In this project, the successful candidate would be expected to: (a) Independently conduct the experimental works (b) Conduct the analyses of the experimental results under the guidance of the supervisor (c) Develop a report of the research project 4. Required Skills and Knowledge The successful candidate for this project will have the following knowledge and skills: (a) Concrete engineering (b) Rheological models (c) Experimental works References http://www.infra.kochi-tech.ac.jp/shima/ See our admission guidelines: http://www.kochi-tech.ac.jp/kut_E/graduate/admission.html
