This document outlines an analytic rubric for evaluating student writing with five criteria: focus, development, organization, grammar and mechanics, and audience awareness, tone and style. Each criterion is worth a certain number of points and describes what assessors will look for in terms of whether the essay maintains a clear thesis, develops its arguments with evidence, employs a logical structure, contains grammatical errors, and uses an appropriate style.
