GLAM ROCK :
Glam rock is a style of music which developed in the late 1970's. It all started with Androgynous performers such as David Bowie and the New York Dolls who started to adopt a stage character by wearing makeup and women's clothing. This then developed into the New Romantic movement and when music started getting heavier the look got more aggressive and the Punk and the New Romantic aesthetic merged and made the Glam Rock look - the look was very androgynous with men wearing spandex, makeup and backcombing their hair. Motley Crue were one of the first bands to start off the Glam Rock look, they tried to make an impact on stage to get noticed and they were influenced by bands like Mott The Hoople and the New York Dolls at the time and therefore decided to wear makeup and bleach their hair and wear women's clothing however they took it one step further and when they started attracting loads of female fans their male audience decided to copy etc.. The theatrics and stage shows associated with Glam Rock were adopted by stars such as Adam Ant, theandrogyny and sexual politics were picked up by acts including Culture Club, Bronski Beat and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. In Japan in the 1980s, visual kei was strongly influenced by glam rock aesthetics. Glam has since enjoyed continued influence and sporadic modest revivals in R&B crossover act Prince, and bands such as Marilyn Manson, Crash Diet and Reckless Love. If you're into Glam you're usually associated with sex, drugs, rock and roll and reckless living as many of the song lyrics and the lifestyles of people that sang glam 99% of the time lived those lifestyles and usually you replicated your 'idols'. Most of them are just 'punks in makeup' and probably don't care about politics or obide by rules.
