Date: March 24, 2013 Michael L. Cherry Scholarship Committee University of Maryland, College Park Black Engineers Society To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to recommend William Dalton for the Michael L. Cherry Scholarship program. As a member of the Black Engineers Society executive board at the University of Maryland College Park, I have witnessed Williams selfless dedication to the organization through his leadership roles and volunteer work. He is a practical and dedicated young man with a very bright future. I was first introduced to William when I started my Masters program here at UMCP in the fall 2011 semester. From day one, I could tell that he was a fun loving, driven and kind individual. He is always willing to lend a helping hand and constantly making everyone smile. In my first year of knowing him, William served as the senator and steering chair for the BES executive board. He also volunteered with Maryland Excel by tutoring high school students in math and science. A year later, his passion for NSBE inspired him to join the regional board as the Terror Zone Coordinator, a position that he currently holds today. Its not easy to stay poised while undertaking such a large responsibility on top of everyday schoolwork, but William has been up to the task. As an out-of-state student, I know that this scholarship will greatly assist William in continuing his studies in Geographic Information Systems. He has demonstrated the ability to excel both in and out of the classroom, and he is a fine example of what the NSBE mission represents: academic excellence, professional success and community involvement. I highly recommend William Dalton for the Michael L. Cherry Scholarship. Sincerely,

Bianca Brandveen Graduate Student Coordinator Black Engineers Society
