s of how I came to internalize the understanding that communitybased conservation was the only viable solution to questions around people and protected areas; How working as an environmental lawyer restricts ones understanding of the context to the realm of the law; How I became involved with the issues around the Sariska Tiger Reserve whilst working with Natural Justice. To unpack the different stakeholders through observations made during my field trips (Mainly Haripura and Lilunda). I have chosen to group the observations under the following broad categories: - Status of it as a Tiger reserve; - The nature of legal engagement on part of the Gujjars- looking at their involvement in the 2007 protest, FRA and relocation; - KRAPAVIS: To understand their approach of revitalisation of orans/dev bannis; - To highlight the illegal mining that is taking place within the reserve; - Bharthari Mandir and its relationship to the surrounding villages. - To understand the links between their livelihood-rights-sacred grovescaste-inclination to conserve. To use this space to understand the following questions: - What is the limitation of the Forest Rights Act,2006 in Sariska? - How does the strategy of revitalising Orans/Dev Bannis effect the Gujjars and other communities? - How do they seek to engage with the law going forward? - What is the nature of the political forces operating around the Bharthari temple and the sacred groves? - Do they want to relocate, if so who and why? To begin to harmonize the conflicting elements in Sariska with a

potential legal strategy primarily looking at the issue of relocation; To examine the limitations of my role as a lawyer and yet trying to broaden the understanding of being a community-based lawyer when one encounters such complexity. To also generate some critical observations of Natural Justices approach of biocultural rights.
