    Character Word: Responsible - when others are depending on you to do something

    A Peek at Our Week:


    Reading: We will continue to build our reading stamina in Read to Self. We will also learn how to choose a good fit book for reading. Math: We will continue our unit on counting and will take a unit test on Friday. Writing: We will be using a teacher-directed writing prompt to assess our writing skills. Science/Social Studies: We will learn about schools and communities and how they work together.

    Reminders:
    Please join PTA! The cost is $6.00 per person. We will be collecting Box Tops for Education this year. Please send in Box Tops labeled with your childs name & teachers name. Any changes in transportation MUST be made in writing. Please use the Change of Transportation note found in your childs binder for this.

    Sound Check:
    This week we will focus on the sound of short a (as in apple, alligator, fan, hand, dad). Students will work on reading and writing these words in class.

    Sight Words and Family Words: Sight words: all, be, if, she, big
    (all of the sight words will be on the spelling test)

    Technology Tip:
    We will be using Edmodo.com this year in our classroom to access websites and learning apps. Each child has been assigned a specific username and password. Once your child has signed in to Edmodo, click on the Folders link (left side) to find online resources for your child to use, or use the Apps Launcher (right side) to use learning apps for spelling or math. Your child will bring home a passwords card today.

    Upcoming Events:
    9/2: Labor Day (No School) 9/3: MAP testing begins for 2nd 5th grades 9/9: Boy Scout representatives in cafeteria to hand out information 9/10: Boy Scout Parent Meeting (6:30) 9/16: Open House 9/16-9/20: Fall Book Fair

    (we will choose 5 of the family words for the test on Friday)
