ArtFest 2013 Teacher Information Sheet

Dear Teaching Artist, Thank you for helping us make this years ArtFest our biggest and best ever. Some of you are returning to teach for the second or even third timeyou guys are amazing! Others of you are coming in to work with our kids for the first time we couldnt pull this off without your generosity of spirit and sense of adventure. I think all of you will have an amazing, unforgettable experience! The following is some of the logistical information youll need to know, as well as information we need from you about your workshop(s). We want to ensure you have everything you need to make the experience memorable for you and our students. About the Workshops Workshops are 90 minutes long, usually have about 25 students, and are most successful when the kids are up and making art, performing, and creating as much as possible. Too much theory or history tends to make them antsy. You want to try to hook them into your discipline with the most fun and accessible activities things that they can all be successful at in no time. There are slots for eight workshops over the two days you can sign up for all eight (thats ideal), or if your schedule wont allow that, you can do a block of two on either Wednesday, Thursday, or both. You may also teach different workshops, if you like and feel comfortable doing that (i.e., you might do two hip-hop workshops in the morning, and jazz workshops in the afternoon). Logistics: You may come to school any weekday between now and August 12 (8 am 3 pm) to look at your space, drop off materials, etc. Please call our Office Manager Nora to arrange a time so we will be expecting you. She can be reached at 818-837-6429. You may also call me any time on my cell phone 323-823-4569. ArTES is located on the Cesar Chavez Learning Academies campus, 1001 Arroyo St., San Fernando, CA 91340. You may park in the lot adjacent to the school if anyone asks, let them know youre here for ArTES. You will have someone from the school in the workshops with you should you need help with anything. We will let you know before long the student attendance process (though that will likely be handled by your room host).

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, needs, or concerns you may have. I will continue to be in touch up to the workshop days to make sure everything is coming together. Finally, we need even more artists! Please let your friends know about this and invite them to contact me if they want to teach some workshops. This is a real community event, and we welcome as many artists as we can get! Once again, thank you for all your support and generosity. Its because of people like you that ArTES can offer these rich experiences to our students.
