Hakeem serves on the House Budget Committee and the House Judiciary Committee, where he also serves on the subcommittees of Courts & Intellectual Property as well as Internet & Regulatory Reform. Prior to his election to Congress, Hakeem worked for six years in the New York State Assembly. Hakeem is a former litigation counsel at Viacom and CBS, and a former litigation attorney at Paul Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison LLP. He graduated magna cum laude from the NYU School of Law and served on the law review. He has a masters degree in public policy from Georgetown University. He earned his B.A. in political science at Binghamton University, where he graduated with honors. Hakeem is committed to promoting economic growth, reforming the criminal justice system, preventing gun violence and assisting victims of Superstorm Sandy.
