ABSTACT CORRELATION BETWEEN BODY MASS INDEX (BMI) WITH MAXIMUM OXYGEN UPTAKE (VO2 max) IN STUDENTS OF SMAN

1 BANJARMASIN Riza Adi Saputra

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a method that is widely used to describe the body composition indirectly. Body composition describes the ratio of the body, especially the muscles (active metabolism) compared with the less active, especially fats. Both muscle and fat have a weight / mass, when compared with the height will describe body composition indirectly. Body composition is related to cardiorespiratory endurance. The best predictors to determine a person's cardiorespiratory endurance is the determination of maximal O2 uptake volume (VO2 max) per minute. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between Body Mass Index (BMI) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) in students of SMAN 1 Banjarmasin. This study was descriptive analytic with cross-sectional approach. They were 60 students selected by purposive sampling. Each student measured height and weight, then VO2 max measured by the method of Multistage fitness test. Data analysis using pearson correlation test with confidence interval of 95 %. The results of the statistical analysis showed a correlation between BMI and VO2 max with sig value 0.000 (p<0.005). It can be concluded that there is significant correlation between BMI and VO2 max in students of SMAN 1 Banjarmasin. Key words : Body Mass Index (BMI), VO2 max
