Society for Museum Archaeologists Committee vacancies as at November 2013 Secretary The role of secretary is often busy but

very rewarding. It offers an excellent opportunity for networking across the sector and for continuing professional development and skill development. The main duties include: Distributing documents to committee and taking minutes at quarterly meetings Taking minutes at the AGM Maintaining document archives Supporting the chair with any other documentation Representing the society on external committees and groups or liaising with project partners. Liaise closely with the membership secretary to ensure relevant communications reach the membership. Manage the webpage in conjunction with a web designer. Organise the annual conference with support from the committee.

Membership Secretary The Membership Secretary is a committee position that affords a great opportunity for networking with all the current SMA Members throughout the UK. Acting as a first port of call for new members, and sending out regular SMA communications, the main duties include; Meet with committee at quarterly meetings. Maintain database of members information and report numbers to committee at quarterly meetings Process applications from new members Bank membership subs Invoice all members annually for subscription renewal and follow up any late payments. Forward communications to members via e-mail Maintain template of current members address labels and supply to editor when needed for postal communications e.g. Proceedings mail out. Support Secretary at annual conference and attend AGM

Learning officer Working in conjunction with a second learning officer, this role is to organise an annual training programme that is relevant and interesting to the membership and to liaise with other organisations that offer training opportunities to bring them to the attention of the membership.

Ordinary member Ordinary members do not fulfil specific roles but provide an invaluable contribution by offering insight to the committee from their own personal, regional and organisational perspectives. This is an excellent role to take as an introduction to the work of a committee and to network with peers from across the sector. Ordinary members may be asked to support the work of the society by undertaking tasks and projects as and when required.
