Spelling Menu

Directions: Each week you are to work toward mastering your spelling words. Your spelling homework is due the day of your test, Thursday, unless there is a change in schedule. There will be a consequence for spelling homework that is late. For your weekly spelling homework, you are to pick one activity from each box (4 assignments total). You may use paper from the classroom or home for your work. Please staple all activities together with a name, number, and date on the first page. Be sure to ask questions before the due date if you are unsure of any activities or what to turn in. Bonus: Try highlighting your activity each week and try not to repeat any until you have tried all of them. You may discover something you like that surprises you!

Mastery
ABC Order- write your words in ABC order then write them in backwards ABC order, neatly Syllables- write each word and use slashes to chunk each word into its correct syllables (use a dictionary if you need help) 3 Times Each- write each word 3 times neatly Vowels and Consonants- write your words and use the color red for all of the vowels then write all of your words a second time and write all of the consonants in blue

Interpersonal
Memory Match- create a memory match game of cards using your 15 words then play memory match with an adult Scramble- have an adult scramble your 15 words then unscramble each word and write it correctly next to the scrambled word Practice Test- have an adult give you a practice test, review your incorrect words and write each word missed 3 times Secret Agent- write down the letters A-Z and create a symbol for each then write at least 6 of your words in code and have an adult solve your code next to each word

Understanding
Mystery Words- write each of your spelling words then next to each write a new word you can create by using the letters from your spelling word (ex. pickle- lick, like, or pie) Definitions- write at least 6 of your words and copy down the meaning from a dictionary for each word Sentences- write each of your spelling words in a complete sentence (underline the word in each sentence) Newspaper- pick at least 6 of your spelling words and cut out the letters to spell them from a newspaper or magazine then glue them down to be turned in

Self-Expressive
Illustrations- write each of your spelling words then illustrate a picture next to each word to match it Handwriting- write each word first in your fanciest handwriting, then in your smallest handwriting, and lastly in your strangest handwriting Story, Song, or Letter- Write either a story, song, or letter to a friend. In your story, song, or letter you need to write a sentence using each of your spelling words correctly (underline each of the words) Word Pyramids- write each of your words in a spelling pyramid, neatly space out your words

*In an effort to reduce copies please keep a copy of the spelling menu at home to pick activities each week and return only the activities back to school. If you misplace your spelling menu just ask for a new one and a replacement can be sent home. **Once in awhile a different type of weekly spelling homework will be sent home in place of the menu but directions will be communicated on the first day of the week if there is a change in routine.
