Lets get in the bus.

Child: Ebado Date: August 2013 Written by: Teacher Eunjoo Kia Ora/ As salamu alaykum Ebado and whnau, This afternoon while other children were enjoying playing with the sand in the sand pit, I noticed that Ebado, you were on the fort. As I approached you I could hear your singing. I was not sure what it was and I said to you, Id love to sing with you. What is it? You sang softly with a big smile Wheels on the bus go, round and round... While I was singing with you, you also did some movements according to the words. When the song finished you started the next verse with The horn on the bus goes beep.... and Babies on the bus go, Wa wa wa.. until the entire song finished. When it finished you went through the tunnel back and forth, and returned to the handle again.

Ebado, I could see from your smile and facial expressions that you had a really good time by yourself.

What is happening here? Children learn not only through play while they interact with other children but also when they play by themselves. Therefore, solitary play is also important. Today, I can see that Ebado, You initiate your own games with items that interest you. You are playful with equipment and express your feelings verbally and through gestures. In your solitary play you pretended to be a bus driver in a bus, a teacher at mat time and children in a bus. Te Whariki suggests the importance of an environment where children can discover and develop different ways to be creative and expressive.

Additionally, Ebado, its good to see you singing the songs we did at mat time recently confidently and happily. You have shown us that you really enjoy a kiwi group time. You certainly know how to remember a previous activity you did at the mat time, revisit it, enjoy and make the most of your time. Ka pai.

Whats next for Ebados learning step? Ebado, I enjoyed watching you engage and explore on the outside playground. Our teachers will continue to provide opportunities for you to explore your strengths and interests by showing sensitive interventions and encouragement.
