AMINO ACIDS

Amino acids are building blocks of proteins, consisting of one or more carboxyl groups and one or more amino groups attached to a carbon atom. There are over 80 naturally occurring amino acids, 20 of which are found in proteins. CLASSIFICATION OF AMINO ACIDS: 1. Non-Essential Amino Acids. 2. Essential Amino Acids. 1. Non-Essential Amino Acids: Non-essential amino acids are those amino acids which are synthesized within the body. 2. Essential Amino Acids: Essential Amino Acids are those amino acids which are not synthesized by the human body. There are 10 amino acids which are non-essential in nature. Following are the names of non-essential amino acids. 1. Tryptophan 2. Threonine. 3. Histidine. 4. Arginine. 5. Leucine. 6. Iso-Leucine. 7. Valine. 8. Alanine. 9. Phenyl Alanine. 10. Lysine. FUNCTION OF AMINO ACIDS: The major function of the Amino acids is in the synthesis of proteins. They are major constituents of proteins, which are ultimately major source of body building and tissue maintenance in the body.
