PROPS PROJECT
Props are a very important part of a show. They add to the characters and assist in dressing the set
and the show. Props for a show can be minimal or elaborate, depending on what the period of the
show is or how the director or technical director wants to use them.
Your PROPS PROJECT will be completed in 4 parts. The first two assignments relate directly
to what you would do if you were the PROPS MASTER or PROPS MISTRESS for a show. The
last two assignments are in the actual design part of the project. The project will be due in
parts.
The Prop Crew for a show is responsible for finding all the props needed for that show. They
can be directly or indirectly stated in the script.

PROPS IN SCRIPT (FORMATIVE GRADE) Go through your copy of the script and
highlight ALL the props. Some will be literal (you can see it listed in the script) and some
are implied (it is hinted at in the script). Make sure you highlight EVERYTHING! DUE BY
THE END OF CLASS Wed., Sept 11TH!

PROPS LIST (SUMMATIVE GRADE)Create a prop list using your script as a reference.
You should list the PAGE #, PROP, WHERE TO FIND IT (Make, Borrow, Buy, Find),
CHARACTER (who uses it), and NOTES (any special notes on what the prop should look
like, etc.) DUE BY THE END OF CLASS Wed., Sept. 11TH!

Sometimes if the item cannot be found in storage or be borrowed, the prop master/mistress is
responsible for making it.

PROP DESIGN (FORMATIVE GRADE)design ONE prop from the list of acceptable
props for the show. You need to give a color sketchdiagram and label any moving parts
or special construction that needs to be done. Analyze the scripts for anything special
the prop needs to do. DUE BY THE END OF CLASS Fri., Sept. 13TH!

PROP CONSTRUCTION (SUMMATIVE GRADE)construct the prop you designed from

FOUND ITEMS. Do not buy anything! Everything needs to be materials you find laying
around. It needs to be the final product, so paint it if needed. BE CREATIVE!! DUE AT
THE BEGINNING OF CLASS THURS., Sept 19TH!
