Someone please paraphrase what our main focus has been the last two days. What did we do?
Exploring Vignettes
A
vignette is typically a scene or story which takes place over a short amount of time.
Each group has an example of a vignette.
Notice how even these short narratives have a solid beginning, middle and end. Adversity within a short story can be blatant or implied.
With
your groups, discuss these questions about the vignette: What adversity is the character facing? Is it internal (within the character; "man" vs. self) or external (outside of character; "man" vs. "man" or nature)? How does the character react to the adversity? How could the author have developed the adversity further?
Workshop
By this point in time, you should know your character pretty well.
If you do not, be aware you are behind by a bit and should take some time at home to catch up.
It is now time to start thinking about the conflict or challenge (whats this called again?) your character will face in your narrative vignette.
