SOCIAL NETWORKING

ICE-BREAKER
Objective: To introduce the concept of social networking

To divide audience into groups and allow interaction

Time duration:7mins Method:


1. Select images based on the number of groups to be formed. Example if five groups have to be formed then select five images 2. Tear every image based on the number of members in each group 3. Shuffle all the torn bits of the images together 4. Give the participants a glimpse of all the images. Request them to pick up a piece 5. Now the participants are to find the rest of the pieces which are with different members. This helps them to interact and find their group

Social networks have been the core of human society A network refers to a set of relations between objects

friendship, love, money, power, ideas and sometimes it even cause mental sickness.

World Wide Web exists for the main purpose of making connections
Public networking sites like Face book, Orkut, Linkedin, Flickr and YouTube It refers to Web of relationships in societies

FACTS:

Face book claims that 50% of active users log in to the site each day Twitter now has 75 million users account LinkedIn has over 50 million members world wide Facebook currently has in excess of 350 million active users on global basis Flickr now host more than 4 billion images More than 35 million Facebook users update their status each day Photo uploads to Facebook have increased by more than 100% The average number of tweets per day was over 27.3 million at the end of last year The average number of tweets per hour was around 1.3 million More than 250 Facebook applications have over a million combined users each month

In a business setting, these activities include sharing or searching for information, knowledge and expertise as well as the more purposeful behavior of collaboration Though collaboration and social networking are two different terms, it is often understood that social networking contributes to collaborations

Activity :

Objective: To understand how individuals develop their social network To identify the bases for networks

Time duration: 5mins


Method: 1.Cut different colored yarn into varying lengths 2.Tie yarn together end to end, alternating the colors. Roll the yarn into a ball. Sit in a circle 3.Randomly select one person and ask that person to start a story 4.Then the first person has to pass the yarn ball to the other person sitting in a circle 5.From the second person story has to continue 6.Each person can be given 2 chances to participate in story telling 7. Keep passing the ball of yarn around as the colors change, until the ball of yarn is completely unraveled. The last person ends the story

Ask students to identify and name the social networking opportunities available in the campus other than online networking sites 2. Discuss on the benefits of developing such networks

Objective: To determine participants need for social interaction and strengths.

Supplies: Copies of activity found on next two pages and one pencil for each participant

Time duration: 5mins


Method: 1.Explain purpose of activity and Pass out supplies 2.Require participants to check off the appropriate answer for each statement. Tally scores. Score 2 point for each always, 1 point for each some and 0 points for never

Even the most cautious and well-meaning individuals can give away information they should not
