Abstract

ABSTRACT
The project titled as DESIGN OF JIG AND FIXTURES FOR HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT COUPLING done at Rupa Engineering Works which involves the designing of fixtures for the manufacturing of height adjustment coupling. A height adjustment coupling is used for varying the position of a rotating tool on a shaft of a machine tool such as portable tool is in the form of a coupler between the blade and arbor. A head of the coupler accepts the tool and connects with a tool drive. The depth of the connection defines the working height or position of the tool. A pair of height adjustment coupling is mounted upon the shaft of the coupler head and applies the forces to the coupler head and a tool drive to maintain the connection depth there between and to retain the tool in position. The component in the raw material stage is a circular component so the machining of the circular component is difficult. The sequence of the steps the component undergoes milling, drilling, tapping and cutting the component into two halves. These machining operations are done by holding the components in vertical machining centre by using the clamp. By using the clamps there is a difficulty in cutting the components into two halves and also in difficulty in drilling and tapping operations. By using the clamps the productivity of coupling is less and also the process time is less. To increase the productivity of coupling we can replace the clamps by designing a fixture. The fixture can be designed and easily hold on the vertical

machining centre bed. The circular components can be fixed on the fixture and the machining operations are carried out. By using the fixtures we can increase the productivity of coupling and also process timing.
