Team 5 Geography of Portugal

Made by: Tsvetomir, Tsvetoslav, Georgi and Ivan

Mountains
The territory of Portugal includes an area in the Iberian Peninsula and two archipelagos in the Atlantic Ocean. Portugal's highest peak is the similarly named Mount Pico on the island of Pico in the Azores. Serra de Estrela is the highest Portuguese peak on the mainland.

CLIMATE
Portugal is defined as a Mediterranean climate and is one of the warmest European countries. Annual average rainfall in the mainland varies from just over 3,000 mm in the northern mountains to less than 300 mm in the area of the Massueime River.

RIVERS
The five main rivers in Portugal are: Mondego, Tejo, Minho, Guadiana and Sado. Sado is the only river in Portugal, which flows north.

ENERGY
Portugal has considerable resources of wind and river power, the two most cost-effective renewable sources. Since the turn of the 21st century, there has been a trend towards the development of a renewable resource industry and reduction of both consumption and use of fossil fuel resources.

Rock formations and fossils

There are a lot of interesting rock formations in Portugal. Apart from them, visitors can also see amazing dinosaur footprints and various other geological wonders.
