Vocabulary learning and the acquisition of new categories cooccur. Natural Process

The process by which people learn a second language.

A child typically learns to speak the language before school age. Interaction between other language learners develops general language capacity.

Learners commit errors of omission and errors of commission. Benefit from listening, modeling and first hand experiences. Benefit from visual aids. Learn through errors

Learners know linguistic categories from there native language.


Divided in 5 stages (preproduction, early production, speech emergence, intermediate fluency and advanced fluency.)

Children are not instructed the first language rather they learn it on their own.
