WHY WAS THE GOLD RUSH IMPORTANT IN SHAPING AUSTRALIA'S IDENTITY

By Annabelle Hanlon

The Australian Gold Rush helped shape the nation and change Australia dramatically. This is how Australia was changed.

The economy boomed when people started mining for gold. People became wealthier so Australia became a wealthy country. Australia was no longer known as the poor convict country.

The Gold Rush attracted many people from across the country and from overseas. Australia became very multicultural and diverse due to a huge number of people coming from everywhere around the world to come and try to find gold. This is why Australia is still multicultural and diverse today.

The Eureka Stockade helped make Australia a much more independent country. Though Australia is still controlled by England, it is more independent.
