Child: Yamin Teacher: Bushra Afreen September 2013

Today as I was doing setup in the morning, I noticed you Yamin, came straight for the connecting fishes game which I got out. You were very excited to see the colorful fishes connecting game. I sat there with you and your friends to see what you were doing. First you were little bit hesitant to start, but when I offered you with few of the fishes, and with little bit of encouragement you started sorting the fishes according to their colours. You put all the red fishes on one side and blue on the other. I could see it in your smile of how proud you felt knowing your colours. Then watching your friends and your elder sister connecting the fishes, you also decided to give it a try and you did a great job. I was very pleased to see you watch and learn so quickly from your peers.

Review of learning: Yamin is learning to sort items and match groups of things together according to their colours. With some gentle adult prompting he can be encouraged to count what he has sorted. Where to from here: We would keep encouraging you by offering you lots of opportunities to explore your gross and fine motor skills. We will look for ways to create meaningful opportunities to practice sorting and counting. We will also offer you Yamin, with group experiences with your peers to offer you role modeling and sharing and turn taking.
