Born in Atlanta in 1929 Luther King was a Baptist pastor's son Martin Luther King, Sr. and Alberta Williams King, a church organist. Since childhood, lived experience of a segregated society In 1939, he sang with his church choir in Atlanta for the presentation of the film Gone with the Wind. King attended the Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta. No course or the ninth and the twelfth grade and entered Morehouse College, a reserved young blacks, at age 15, without formally graduating secondary In 1948, he graduated in Sociology (Bachelor of Arts) in Morehouse

Luther King, civil rights activist from a young, organized and carried out various peaceful activities demanding voting rights, nondiscrimination and other basic civil rights for black people in the United States. Among his most memorable are the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955, supported the founding of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957 (which would be its first president), and the leadership of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963, the end of which pronounced his famous speech "I have a dream" ('I have a dream'), by which would spread nationwide public awareness of the rights movement civilians and was heralded as one of the greatest orators in American history

Most of the rights claimed by the movement would be approved legally with the enactment of the Civil Rights Act and the Law of the franchise.

King is remembered as one of the greatest leaders and heroes of American history, and in the modern history of nonviolence. He was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Jimmy Carter in 1977 and the Congressional Gold Medal of the United States in 2004. Since 1986, the Martin Luther King Day is a holiday in the United States

He married on June 18, 1953 with Coretta Scott, who took his name to become Coretta Scott King, in the garden of her parents' house in Heiberger, Alabama.
