Algebra I
Course Description: Algebra is a foundation to high school mathematics. Topics that will be covered are: Properties of Real Numbers, Solving Linear Equations, Graphing Linear Equations and Functions, Writing Linear Equations, Solving and Graphing Linear Inequalities, Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities, Exponents and Exponential Functions, Quadratic Equations and Functions, Polynomials and Factoring, Rational Equations and Functions. Materials Needed: Pencils Notebook of lined paper 2-pocket folder calculator (optional) Grading: Tests/Quizzes: 50% In-Class Notebook: 20% Weekly Graded Homework: 20% Warm Ups: 10% Tests and Quizzes: Tests will be given at the end of each chapter. A review will be handed out at least two days before a test and we will go over the review the day before the test. Quizzes will be given at any time, scheduled or unscheduled. In-Class Notebook: A notebook will be kept in class in an assigned bin. This notebook will contain in class work and investigations. I will check and grade the notebook on a regular basis. I do not accept any late work in the notebook. Once it is graded points cannot be made up so it is very important to participate in class. Weekly Graded Homework: About once a week a homework assignment will be assigned for take-home work and graded on correct answers. I will accept these assignments late for half credit up until the day of the test. Warm Ups: Warm ups will be given everyday at the beginning of class. When the bell rings students are expected to be in their seats and working on their warm ups. Warm ups will be collected every week and graded on participation. Classroom Rules: 1. When the bell rings find your seat and sit down 2. Be respectful 3. Be prepared for class 4. No bathroom passes unless its an emergency 5. No food 6. TRY YOUR BEST!!
