A visual dialogue about human o b s e s s i o n w i t h i n d u s t r y, manufacturing, machinery, the essence of nature and the nature of what it is to be human. The Motor Cortex is a region of the c e re b r u m re s p o n s i b l e f o r t h e coordination of planning, control, and executing voluntary movements. Industry, manufacturing, machinery separate the modern day human lifestyle from our simpler beginnings that connected us more closely with the environment. It divides us from the natural environment. Ironically, the impulse to plan, control and create is at the very core of our nature, our biological nature, to be precise, our brains. Jayson Fittipaldis work asks us to think about connections and complexities of between the built object and natural phenomenon. Taylor Pilote combines the skills he honed working in his
fathers auto mechanics garage with contemporary art, allowing him to transcend technical ability and stretch preconceptions of material into a way of investigating and describing culture. Kathy Kissik carefully chooses the mixed media in her industrial landscapes to symbolically reflect the subject matter - copper conducts energy and so it is used in a power plant composition. Nick Gentry creates portraits using obsolete technology, film negatives, floppy disks, x-rays, to underscore our own obscurity. James Rosenquist began by earning his living as a billboard painter, but his deftly applied sign-painting techniques transferred to fine art and made him one of the protagonists in the pop-art movement.
