Bed-wetting

This is the spontaneous discharge of urine during sleep, day or night, in children over
three years of age.

Treatment:

Foot massage: The massage is applied to kidney (22), ureter (23), urinary bladder
(24), urethra (51) and pituitary gland (4) reflecting areas. The area is
fixed by the thumb and the medial border of the flexed index finger or the pad of
thumb is used to press and scratch above the areas 3-4 times (Fig. 93).

Foot acupuncture:

(1) Meridianal acupoints: At Taichong (LR 3), Xingjian (LR 2), Shuiquan (KI 5) and
Taixi (KI 3) acupoints, a reinforcing acupuncture technique or moxibustion is applied.
The needles are retained for 30 minutes and moxibustion is applied for 15 minutes.
(2) Foot acupoints: A reinforcing acupuncture technique or gentle moxibustion is
applied at Bed-wetting (FA-P 21) acupoint. The needle is retained for 30 minutes and
moxibustion is applied for 15 minutes.

External application of drugs:

(1) Fresh ginger 30 gm is pounded and fried hot for application to kidney (22)
reflecting area before sleep.
(2) An appropriate amount of Wubeizi (gallnut) powder is mixed with boiled water to
prepare a paste for application to kidney (22) reflecting area.
(3) Liuhuang (sulfur) powder 20 gm and green onion 120 gm are pounded together
and baked to prepare a hot paste for application to kidney (22) and urinary bladder (24)
reflecting areas overnight, and a hot water bag is placed over the sole. This treatment
is applied 10 times.
