3: SpoolsScience/Math Triangle Classroom Shelby Nickel This activity also targeted the older children in the classroom. The developmental objective was to sort objects by different characteristics. For the first part of the week, five containers with colored paper were placed on the table for children to sort pieces of ribbon by color. The second half of the week, containers with pieces of ribbon were placed on the table for children to match ribbon to the corresponding containers.

Several of the older children engaged in this activity. Marlowe (28 months) was particularly interested in it and stayed at the activity for approximately ten minutes. She completed foundation M.6.8move objects from one container to anotherby moving a piece of ribbon that was in the wrong container to the correct one. She looked at the piece of ribbon and said, Thats not right, and moved it to another container. Matthieu (30 months) demonstrated foundation M.6.11identify when objects are the samewhen he put two pieces of ribbon in the same container. He picked up the pieces of ribbon, recognized they were the same color, and put them together in a container. He completed this action twice.
