The passage encourages the reader to always rejoice in God, show gentleness to others, and not worry about anything. Instead of worrying, pray to God with thanksgiving about all concerns. If the reader does this, God will grant a peace that surpasses understanding. Finally, the reader should meditate on whatever is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy.

I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers [and sisters], whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever things are of good report-- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-- meditate about such things.
