Warm Up #10- Appositives

Definition: A noun or noun phrase that renames another noun RIGHT beside it. Appositives are ALWAYS separated from the rest of the sentence with commas Appositives can be short or long. Examples:
The insect, an ant, is crawling across the table. The insect, a Fire ant determined to bite my hand, is crawling across the table.

Write the definition and three ORIGINAL examples of appositives.

Direct Characterization: When the author TELLS the audience what the personality of the character is.
The student, a gentle and kind young girl, helped the old woman cross the street.

Write three sentences that use an appositive AND have direct characterization.

Combine the sentences below into one sentence that uses at least one appositive 1. The car was made in 2009. It is a Toyota. It is red. It belongs to Joe. 2. The girl is little. She is cute. She is also very smart. Her name is Mary. 3. He is my favorite uncle. His name is bob. He is winning the game.

Add an appositive to the sentences below. Remember that appositives ALWAYS have a noun that is more specific that the noun before it. 1. The volcano spewed lava and ash. 2. The car sped down I-45. 3. The animal roared.

Describe three of your family members/pets using appositives Example: 1. Drew, the worlds cutest baby, was born on January 11, 2013. 2. Travis, a giant dork, will graduate from law school in December 2014. 3. Cole, my dog, never stops wagging his tail.
