1. What is a concept?

A concept is a general idea of a thing or class of things. It can be an idea of what you
think something should be like also.
2. What two things does a measurement statement always contain? What do the two things
tell you?
numerical value and the unit in which you are using or describing. For example say it's 70
degrees Fahrenheit outside. Then 70 is the numerical value, degrees Fahrenheit is the
unit.
3. Other than familiarity, what are the advantages of the English system of measurement?
Other advantages to the English system of measurement are that when it was originally
created it was based on the human body system.
4. Describe the metric standard units for length, mass, and time.
The metric standard units for length in the metric system are the meter, the standard units
for mass in the metric system are kilogram, and the standard units for time in the metric
system are second.
5. Does the density of a liquid change with the shape of a container? Explain.
No it does not because liquid weighs the same whether is in a big glass, small glass, fat
glass or skinny glass.
6. Does a flattened pancake of clay have the same density as the same clay rolled into a
ball? Explain.
No they do not have the same density because clay rolled in a ball may be heavier that
clay flattened out.
7. What is an equation? How are equations used in the physical sciences?
An equation is a statement that describes a relationship in which quantities on one side of
the equal sign are the same as the other.
8. Compare and contrast a scientific principle and a scientific law.
Scientific principle is a relationship quantities concerned with a specific or narrow range
or observations and behavior. Scientific law is a relationship between quantities that are
usually described any an equation in the physical sciences.
9. What is a model? How are models used?
A model is used when something is too big or too small for the human eye to see. A
Model is a description of a theory or idea that accounts for all known properties.
10. Are all theories always completely accepted or completely rejected? Explain.
All theories are not all the time correct or wrong. Sometime they made need double
checking for mistakes and etc.
