Facial palsy

This is a condition caused by the inflammation of facial nerves producing deviation of


mouth and eye and drooling. Facial paralysis caused by cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral
thrombosis, other cerebrovascular accidents, profuse hemorrhage, otitis media,
parotitis, rheumatic neuritis of facial nerve, periostitis of stylomastoid foramen, and
herpes zoster recognized by modern medicine may be treated by the following
methods.

Treatment:

Foot massage: The massage may be applied to trigeminal nerve (5), head (1), ear (9),
frontal sinus (2), liver (18), spleen (34), kidney (22) and eye (8) reflecting areas (Fig.
40).

Foot acupuncture:
1) Meridianal acupoints: At Lidui (ST 45), Chongyang (ST 42), Xingjian (LR 2) and
Taichong (LR 3) acupoints, the reducing technique is applied and the needles are
retained for 20 minutes.
2) Foot acupoints: At Head and face (FA-P 1) and Face (FA-P 4) acupoints, a
moderate twisting stimulation is applied and the needles are retained for 20 minutes.
