Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant Introduction


Its a nuclear power station in Koodankulam in the

Tirunelveli district.
Its an Inter-Governmental Agreement between India

and Russia was signed in 1988.


The project remained for a decade due to the political

and economic upheaval in Russia.


Construction began only in September 2001.

In 2008 negotiation on building four additional reactors at

the site began


A firm agreement on setting up two more reactors, has been

postponed
Under an inter-government agreement signed in December

2008 Russia is to supply to India four third generation

VVER-1200 reactors

Oppositions
There is absolutely no democratic decision-making in or

public approval for this project.


People in this area could be displaced. More than 1 million people live within the 30 km radius of

the KNPP
The coolant water and low-grade waste from the KNPP are

going to be dumped in to the sea which will have a severe


impact on fish production and catch.

Facts and reasons for shut downing KNPP


No proper canvassing has been given with the

public.
The opinion suggested regarding the plant by

the Russian Scientist was made hidden


Radiation from radiators, salt formulated from

salt Industry, Clay, Fertilizers by discharging into sea will kill out the oceanic life.

peoples but it doesn't meet up with the criteria

towards Power plant and can be witnessed from various Medias
