The Indian telecom sector has witnessed tremendous growth over the past decade. Today, Indian telecom sector is the second largest in the world after China. The total number of telephones as on 31st April 2013 was 897.02 million. The mobile subscriber base in India is estimated rise by 9% according to technology researcher Gartner.

The total telephone subscriber base in India increased marginally to 898.02 million at the end of March, 2013 from 892.02 million at the end of February 2013 witnessing a monthly growth rate of 0.67 percent, according to latest subscription data by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Bharti Airtel has enjoyed an excellent run over since the telecom Sector opened- It managed to hold on to its leadership position right from the inception in spite of the presence of Global Leaders such as Reliance, Tatas, Birlas and Vodafone - Airtel coped well with the regulatory changes from TRAI - One Network
